2024: Highlights and Achievements
2024 was an incredible year for IDA Arizona. From launching our inaugural Teen Board to expanding outreach through impactful events and training, we have made meaningful strides toward our mission of empowering dyslexic and struggling readers and promoting evidence-based literacy practices. Here’s a look at what we achieved together:
Building Awareness Through Events
- 1in5K Dyslexia Dash: Our third annual 5K brought together 391 participants—including new satellite teams in Flagstaff and Tucson—for a day of connection, awareness, and fundraising.
- The Truth About Reading Screenings: We participated as guest panelists at two screenings of this thought-provoking documentary, emphasizing the importance of implementing Structured Literacy in classrooms.
- Hopeville Screening Event: In partnership with Wilson Language Training, we hosted a screening of Hopeville: How to Win the Reading Wars, sparking critical conversations on literacy reform and evidence-based teaching practices.
- Western Region Collaboration: We helped organize the first-ever multi-branch online event, uniting parents, educators, and professionals nationwide to explore the origins and importance of Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading.
- University of Arizona Panel: Engaged the community by speaking about the adult dyslexic experience to a UA physiology class, raising awareness and understanding.
Educator Support and Training
- Live Webinars: Hosted four online sessions, reaching a total of over 200 participants, providing valuable insights into dyslexia-related topics and literacy instruction.
- Professional Development: Issued 75 CE certificates, helping educators meet licensure requirements while deepening their expertise.
- Scholarships: Awarded 12 reimbursement scholarships to educators pursuing courses on dyslexia, the Science of Reading, and Structured Literacy.
- Wilson Training Partnership: Co-sponsored 24 educators for Structured Literacy training at no cost.
- Dyslexia Presentations: Delivered three sessions, reaching over 100 educators, strengthening their understanding of dyslexia and effective research-based practices.
Community Impact
- Learning Ally Support: Enabled 23 struggling readers to access audiobook tools that make reading accessible and enjoyable.
- Guidance and Resources: Devoted countless hours assisting parents, educators, professionals, and dyslexic individuals with tools or strategies for navigating the challenges of dyslexia, seeking effective literacy interventions, and information on evidence-based practices
Outreach
- Conference Exhibitor: Spent three days at the Teachers’ Institute and Leading Change (TILC) Conference, connecting with educators and spreading awareness.
- Social Media Growth: Expanded our reach and deepened engagement through spreading awareness and strategic outreach.
Empowering the Next Generation
- Inaugural Teen Board: Launched our first Teen Board, a group of passionate high school students dedicated to raising dyslexia awareness and empowering younger dyslexics.
Financial Growth, Support, and Transparency
- Fundraising Success: Raised $38,067 through sponsorships, donations, and events:
- Sponsorships: $18,000
- Donations: $8,395 (Trainings: $5,350, Dash: $2,595, General: $450)
- Fundraising: $12,323 (Dash Registration: $11,672, CE Certificates: $415, T-shirt Sales: $196)
- Candid Gold Transparency: Achieved a Gold level of transparency, reflecting our commitment to accountability and trustworthiness.
