Love Your School is organizing a rally in support of House Bill 2170, the “Say Dyslexia” Bill, at the Capitol. Join IDA Arizona and other partners on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 1 PM to show your support!
This important bill will be heard by the House Education Committee. If passed, it will require a student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program/Plan) to have “dyslexia” written on the paperwork if the child has a dyslexia diagnosis.
Don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice heard. RSVP and stay updated on rally details HERE!
Why is the “Say Dyslexia” Bill Important?
- Empowering Parents: Including a dyslexia diagnosis in IEP paperwork empowers parents to advocate effectively for appropriate interventions and dyslexia-specific services for their child. Dyslexia often requires more targeted interventions than general reading support.
- Raising Awareness: This bill is a significant move towards raising awareness of dyslexia at the legislative level. With broad support, it can encourage further policy changes to help not only dyslexic students but overall literacy reform.
- Addressing the Reading Proficiency Gap: According to the latest NAEP results, only 31% of Arizona students scored at or above proficient in reading. Ensuring dyslexia is mentioned in IEPs is a crucial step in helping thousands of students and their families secure proper reading intervention services.
- Date: January 28, 2025
- Location: Arizona State Capitol (1700 W Washington St, Phoenix, AZ 85007), Room HHR1.
- Time: The bill will be heard between 1:15–2:00 PM
