Who We Are

About Us

IDA Arizona is a proud branch of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), the oldest organization dedicated to the study and treatment of dyslexia. Founded in 1949 in honor of Dr. Samuel T. Orton, IDA has long been a trusted source for research-based knowledge and information—educating families and professionals, and informing the policies and practices needed for effective reading instruction so that every child can learn to read.

Carrying that mission forward, IDA Arizona is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting dyslexic learners, their families, and the educators and professionals who serve them. We provide trainings, community programs, and resources across the state that empower educators and equip families.

Our vision is clear: Structured Literacy in Every Classroom. We believe the way to achieve this is by equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to teach reading effectively—so they can reach every student, including dyslexic learners. When teachers are empowered, students succeed.

Fueled by passionate volunteers and sustained through donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events, IDA Arizona is working to improve literacy outcomes by equipping educators, supporting families, and strengthening classrooms—opening doors to brighter futures across Arizona.

Empowering teachers. Supporting families. Changing outcomes.

Here’s how we make that happen across Arizona:

  • Learning Ally Access – Free audiobook subscription for dyslexic members (a $135 value), giving students access to grade-level content and confidence in learning.
  • Scholarships – Up to $400 per year (based on membership level) for Structured Literacy training, reducing financial barriers to teacher preparation.
  • Webinars – Expert-led sessions, live or on-demand, with CE certificates to keep educators current on evidence-based reading practices.
  • Dyslexia Awareness Trainings – 1–2 hour workshops that equip educators and parents with tools to better support struggling readers.
  • 1in5K Dyslexia Dash – An annual event that raises awareness, builds community, and funds programs that change outcomes for struggling readers across Arizona.
  • Ongoing Outreach & Updates – We keep our community informed through regular updates on our website, targeted email outreach via Constant Contact, and active engagement on social media—sharing the latest in dyslexia research, literacy policy, training opportunities, and local resources.

Together, we can change the story for struggling readers. Whether you’re a parent, educator, advocate, or ally—there’s a place for you in this movement. Join us as we work to ensure Structured Literacy in every classroom and brighter futures for every child.
